ระบบหัวกระจายน้ำดับเพลิงอัตโนมัติ เป็นระบบที่ใช้กันโดยทั่วไป ตามอาคารสูง คลังสินค้า อาคารโรงงาน ตลอดจนอาคารที่พักอาศัย ซึ่งจะใช้น้ำเป็นตัวกลางในการดับไฟ สามารถทำงานได้โดยการแตกของหัวกระจายน้ำเฉพาะจุดที่เกิดเหตุเพลิงลุกไหม้ ทำให้สามารถดับไฟได้ทันท่วงที ป้องกันการลุกลามขยายตัวเป็นเพลิงไหม้ขนาดใหญ่ โดยจะทำงานร่วมกับระบบเครื่องสูบน้ำดับเพลิง (Fire Pump System) ซึ่งทั้งระบบจะต้องได้รับการออกแบบและติดตั้งตามมาตรฐานสากลที่เป็นที่ยอมรับ (มาตรฐานการติดตั้งหัวกระจายน้ำดับเพลิงอัตโนมัติ NFPA 13 Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems และมาตรฐานการติดตั้งเครื่องสูบน้ำดับเพลิง NFPA 20 Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection)

Automatic sprinkler system (NFPA 13) is a fire protection system commonly used in various kinds of buildings (skyscrapers, warehouses, and residential buildings). The system includes an integrated network of piping with sprinklers installed in a systematic pattern in a building, structure, or area, and is designed to be activated by the heat from a fire and automatically discharge water over the fire area. Automatic sprinkler system basically works in conjunction with a fire pump system, of which the designation and installation must be in accordance with the protection engineering standards of NFPA 13 and NFPA 20.
